Opening Ceremony

July 26, 2024 at the Stade de France in Saint-Denis. A light and music show to showcase France’s rich history and culture. A parade of nations with all the Olympians. The ceremony will culminate in the lighting of the Olympic flame.

Played in 35 sports venues in Paris and 9 other cities in France. Paris: Stade de France, AccorHotels Arena, Palais des Sports, Stade Roland Garros, Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy, Velodrome National de Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, Parc des Princes, Stade de France.

Breakdance – debuts as an official Olympic discipline.

Medal standings

Points system based on competition placement. Gold for first place, silver for second and bronze for third. Ties and two medals for the same placement are possible. The current medal standings are available on the Games website.

Countries

Participation of over 200 countries from all continents of the world.
New countries debuting at the Olympic Games.
Increased representation of developing countries. Russia and Belarus will not participate, as decided by the International Olympic Committee. However, they will be able to compete in individual events if they meet certain conditions.

Medals designed by Philippe Starck, a famous French designer.
The medal can be divided into three parts, symbolizing the Olympic values: friendship, respect and excellence.
The obverse of the medal shows the image of Marianne, a symbol of the French Republic.
The reverse of the medal shows the sports discipline and the date of the games.
The edge of the medal is engraved with the motto of the games: “Ensemble pour un avenir meilleur” (“Together for a better future”).

Unique Design

 

Paris last hosted the games 100 years ago. And it was there that Poles stood on the podium for the first time and received Olympic medals. Silver was awarded to Polish cyclists: Józef Lange, Jan Łazarski, Tomasz Stankiewicz and Franciszek Szymczyk, in the 4 km track race. Bronze was won by Adam Królikiewicz in the show jumping competition.

Equality at the 2024 Olympic Games

It was announced at the conference that there will be full equality this year. Men and women will be able to participate in sailing together. The men’s 50km walk has been removed from the Games.
